What Is a Phone Extension?
A phone extension is a unique identifier assigned to an individual phone or agent within
eDialer. It is required for the eDialer webphone to function and determines how calls are
routed to the correct agent or device.
Step-by-Step: Adding a New Phone Extension
- Log in to the eDialer administration dashboard.
- Navigate to Admin in the main menu.
- Click Phones.
- Select Add a New Phone.
-
Phone Extension field: This field accepts alphanumeric characters.
We recommend using numbers only, especially if you plan to use agent direct extensions
for an IVR. - Dial Plan Number: This is the number you dial to make the phone ring.
- Voicemail Box: Assign a voicemail box to the extension.
NOTE: For the dial plan number and voicemail box, we recommend keeping
both values the same as your phone extension for easier long-term management.
- Outbound Caller ID: This field can be left blank.
-
Enter an agent screen login, a login password, and a
registration password.
NOTE: The login password and registration password must match if you are
using the webphone.
-
Leave the admin user group, server IP, status, active account, and remaining settings at
their defaults. When ready, click Submit. -
After successful registration, eDialer will display the full phone extension settings
screen. -
Locate the field labelled Set As Webphone (just below the registration
password field). - Set Set As Webphone to Y to activate the webphone.
- Set Client Protocol to SIP.
- Set Template ID to SIP Webphone.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Submit.
- 🎉 You have successfully added a new phone extension!
