The Level 3® EVPL (Ethernet Virtual Private Line) service is designed to connect you with a congestion-free, secure and reliable virtual private line service. Sometimes refered to as an E-Line service, EVPL provides features similar to that of a SONET/SDH private line, but without the hardware and dedicated bandwidth costs. EVPL services bring the benefits of Ethernet Local Area Networking (LAN) to the Wide Area Network (WAN).

An EVPL service provides the reliability and dedicated bandwidth that users are accustomed to receiving from dedicated private line services, but with the added benefits of network-enabled CoS, greater billing flexibility and potentially lower operating expenses.

Whether you want to implement new applications or simply combine existing services to run more cost-effectively, an Ethernet VPN-based virtual private line service from Level 3 can provide the right solution.

EVPL Benefits

Designed to Help Ensure Security
The Ethernet functionality resides at Layer 2, creating a private network with no Layer 3 routing involved. Since traffic is not routed, data is not vulnerable to Internet Protocol (IP) security risks.

Offers Scalable, Broad Market Coverage
This true, transparent LAN service supports all Layer 3 protocols and allows you to leverage broad national coverage in the United States. Incrementally scalable ports offer connectivity solutions for metro, regional, national and international networks. We also offer Ethernet interfaces at your premise, even in areas not served by an Ethernet local access provider.

Equips You for Flexibility and Cost Savings
The EVPL service can help you capitalize on lower-cost Ethernet technology and a true “pay-as-you-go” model with rate-limiting capabilities. This flexible service allows you to move ports and circuits between locations, allocate bandwidth by application, prioritize traffic into different Class of Service (CoS) levels, and provision virtual circuits in point-to-point and hub-and-spoke configurations.

EVPL Service Details

  • Flexible Class of Service Options – Four classes of service are available: 1) Default/Best Effort for low priority traffic or file transfers, 2) Preferred Data for sporadic LAN-to-LAN-type traffic, 3) Critical Data with lower delay sensitivity than voice and video, 4) Realtime Voice/Video for applications that demand rigorous timing control and performance metrics.
  • Diverse Access Methods – Choose from options that include the Level 3® Managed Ethernet Access service, a fully monitored and managed, CPE-based solution available at any of our locations using TDM/SONET loops.
  • Fast Reroute Technology – We prevent service disruptions with Fast Reroute Technology and also package the service with a single SLA for your end-to-end service or just PE-to-PE.
  • Easy-to-Use Web Tools – With the Level(3)EnabledSM Portal, you have the ability to remotely monitor port utilization, view order detail, view and download invoices and billing detail, and access escalation lists and reports.
  • The Bandwidth You Need When You Need It – Native FastE and GigE interfaces are available with VC bandwidths up to a full GigE in 1/10/100 Mbps increments.
